September 3rd, 2025

This is my first attempt at posting only what I've taken today. It's more of a picture dump than a curated list - aside from a bit of duplicate culling, everything you're seeing here is everything I shot. There's also some very minimal editing, including an active attempt to not crush the shadows so often. If I can bring myself to keep writing (we're nearing the end of my two-week fixation window), many of the locales in this post will reappear across the blog.

My favourite picture of the morning. I love the way the sun catches in little stars across the water, and something about a tipped over bicycle is interesting (even if the rider is just having a break to go on their phone).

The only thing of note about today's shots is that they were all manually focused. It's a bit tricky to line it up reliably on the dinky little viewfinder, and I don't always have the patience to punch in for confirmation. As such, expect a couple of fuzzy pictures this time around. I apologise in advance, and I can assure you that the only person more disappointed than you, the girl reading this, is me.

Having now written this post, I'm quite happy with this style - it's fast and loose, and it gives me an excuse to share my pics in one place. The minimal writing doesn't really progress my abilities, but something on the page is better than nothing. Hopefully I can get in the habit of doing this after more interesting days, too!

Reflection on today's gear

If your name is Amy Campbell, you have permission to skip this bit and go straight to the gallery underneath. Love you!

Before I found the great deal for my A7C, I was gearing up to buy a full frame body of some sort. Eager to be ready on the day I finally owned said camera, and wanting to "save some money", I bought an M-mount 35mm f/2 lens from 7artisans. The great thing about M-mount glass it that it only takes one little adapter to work with whatever mirrorless brand you want to use, so you get the fun of (usually) vintage glass without bulky SLR-to-mirrorless adapters.

I have a habit of jumping the gun and making supplemental purchases that I think I'll need when whatever big spend they revolve around arrives. There's a logic to this - it's good to be ready, it's nice to be able to use your fun and exciting purchases straight away - but it does encourage overspending, and it has a habit of not working out in the long run. Case in point: when I eventually purchased my A7C, it came with the best possible 35mm lens for me - wide aperture, not too long to fit in my bag, and autofocusing.

Immediately, the 7artisans lens was relegated to the shelf, only to see the light of day when a nice use-case came up (like when a friend asked for some portraits, and I paired it with my GX9 to crop in and use it as a 70mm equivalent). I'm keen to change that, as it is smaller than my AF 35mm, and manually focusing is a good challenge every now and then.

What I'm listening to: "HYPERYOUTH" - Joey Valence & Brae (I need to find something else, I'm going to ruin JVB via self-inflicted overexposure... but it's just too good...)
What I'm reading: "House of Leaves, 2nd Edition" - Mark Z. Danielewski (slowly - like writing this blog, inspiration for reading has taken a back seat to most other hobbies in my life right now)
